I had never used a sewing machine, ever, so I don’t even know why I wanted it.
Maybe it was because I had always enjoyed crafty things – making cards, cross stitch, knitting, crochet etc.
So after some good natured haggling I was the proud owner of a new (old – about 1950 I think) sewing machine.Well, buying it was the easy part.
After several frustrating hours just working out how to thread the machine and how to load the bobbin, I was finally up and running.
I had no fabrics but found an old cloth under the sink and was amazed when I actually managed to sew a line!
So what next? I decided to look online to see if there were any kits that I could start with.
Sure enough after a few minutes surfing I found several sites that sold sewing craft kits.
A few days later I had a number of uninspiring kits of varying quality and mostly aimed at children. That left me thinking. There must be other people, like me, looking for something better. So why not make my own? This became my mission and passion.
On the edge of the New Forest in Hampshire Nicola’s Fabrics has now become a reality.
With both the beginner and the sewing enthusiast in mind, we offer beautiful sewing craft kits with easy to follow step by step instructions.
We use only 100% cotton fabric in our kits which is cut by hand. All you need is a pair of scissors as everything else comes with the kits including high quality Gutermann thread (only the best!)
Along the way and whilst learning the art of patchwork and quilting, I have learned to love the amazingly beautiful fabrics which I came across.
I have found great joy in sourcing and buying these fabrics and am now in the happy position to be able to pass these on to other enthusiasts.
In our online shop you will find designer fabrics from Makower UK, Lewis & Irene, Riley Blake and Moda among others. We also stock a range of craft gifts and selected haberdashery items.
